Kids’ Fishing Day 2012

Unique event offers South Dakota kids new opportunity; Weekend fishing produces proud first-time anglers.

“I think everybody caught fish,” said Ken Steiner a volunteer boat captain and one of the people who helped put the event together.

Each of the kids who took part in the fishing weekend received around $200 worth of gear, including a fishing rod and reel combo, a hat and t-shirt and a water bottle among many other things. All of this was donated by the event’s many sponsors. The Game, Fish and Parks Department provided quite a bit of help as well by supplying youth-sized life jackets, a website for the event and by bringing a portable aquarium full of fish native to South Dakota in order to educate the kids.
